Welcome to Cabin. By using our app, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
1. What Cabin Does
Cabin is a platform that connects builders with tradespeople for short-notice work. We facilitate introductions and payments — we're not an employer, employment agency, or contractor.
We provide:
- A marketplace to find and book tradespeople
- Secure payment processing
- GPS-verified clock in/out
- Ratings and reviews
We don't provide:
- Employment relationships
- Guarantees of work quality
- Insurance coverage
- Tax advice
2. Who Can Use Cabin
To use Cabin, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be legally able to work in the UK
- Provide accurate information
- Have appropriate insurance for your trade (tradespeople)
- Comply with CIS regulations if applicable
3. Account Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Keep your login details secure
- Provide accurate profile information
- Keep your contact details up to date
- Not share your account with others
- Not create multiple accounts
We may suspend or terminate accounts that:
- Provide false information
- Violate these terms
- Receive multiple complaints
- Engage in fraudulent activity
4. Fees & Payments
Platform Fees
| Who pays | When | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Tradesperson | Any booking, or project work as a subcontractor | 0% |
| Builder (business) | Ad hoc booking | 5% of booking value |
| Domestic client | Ad hoc booking | 6% of booking value |
| Whoever created the project — no subscription | Cabin Projects | 5% of total project value, taken once at the final stage |
| Whoever created the project — subscribed | Cabin Projects | 2% of total project value, taken once at the final stage |
| Subscriber (optional) | Cabin Projects subscription | £49/month founding rate, £79/month list |
| Domestic client | Cabin Projects | 0% |
If you create a project, you are the party running it and the project fee applies, whether your account is a builder or a tradesperson account.
Cabin Projects is available to all users. A subscription is optional. It reduces the project fee from 5% to 2% for as long as it is active, and is charged in addition to that fee, not instead of it. The rate that applies to a project is fixed when the project is created and does not change if your subscription starts or ends while it is running.
Where you have previously completed and paid for a booking with the same counterparty, the ad hoc booking fee is 2.5%. Promotional codes, where offered, reduce the standard ad hoc rate for a first booking only.
Booking fees are taken when the payment is processed. The project fee is taken once, on release of the final stage.
Current fees are published at getcabin.co.uk/pricing.
Payment Flow
- Builder books a tradesperson
- Full amount is held on builder's card
- Tradesperson completes work and clocks out
- Payment is released to the tradesperson, less any CIS deduction. No platform fee is deducted from the tradesperson.
- Tradesperson receives funds within 2–3 business days
CIS (Construction Industry Scheme)
- If you're CIS-registered as "Net", 20% is deducted from the labour element of your payment. If you're not registered, 30% is deducted. Cabin Technologies Ltd is the contractor of record for CIS purposes and remits the deduction to HMRC on your behalf.
- If you're CIS "Gross", no deduction applies
- You're responsible for declaring your correct CIS status
VAT
- If you're VAT-registered, you're responsible for charging and reporting VAT
- Cabin displays VAT status but doesn't calculate VAT for you
5. Bookings
Making a Booking
- Builders post jobs with trade type, location, date, and rate
- Tradespeople can express interest or receive direct requests
- Both parties must confirm for a booking to be active
Confirmed Bookings
Once confirmed, both parties are expected to honour the booking. See cancellation policy below.
6. Cancellation Policy
| When the builder cancels | Charged to the builder | Paid to the tradesperson |
|---|---|---|
| 48 hours or more before the start | Nothing | Nothing |
| Between 24 and 48 hours before | 25% of the booking cost | The full 25% |
| Less than 24 hours before | 50% of the booking cost | The full 50% |
| After the booking start time | 100% of the booking cost | The full agreed rate |
“Booking cost” means the agreed rate plus the builder’s platform fee. No deduction is taken from the tradesperson’s cancellation payment. Where a cancellation charge applies, the tradesperson receives it in full.
Late Arrival
- Up to 30 minutes late: Acceptable. Clock in when you arrive, get paid for actual time.
- More than 30 minutes late without notice: Builder may cancel. Tradesperson receives nothing.
7. No-Show Policy (Tradespeople)
We take reliability seriously. If you accept a booking but don't show up:
| Strike | Consequence |
|---|---|
| 1st no-show | Warning issued, builder notified |
| 2nd no-show | Deprioritised in search results |
| 3rd no-show | Account suspended pending review |
Strikes reset after 90 days of completed bookings without issues. Builders receive a full refund for no-shows.
8. Disputes
How to Raise a Dispute
Contact us at hello@getcabin.co.uk within 48 hours of the issue.
Our Process
- We'll respond within 24 hours
- We'll review GPS data, clock times, and both parties' accounts
- We'll make a decision within 48 hours
Possible Outcomes
- Full refund to builder
- Partial refund
- No refund (+ warning if warranted)
Our decision is final for disputes under £500. For larger amounts, you may pursue other remedies.
9. GPS & Location
Clock In/Out
- Tradespeople must clock in within 500m of the job postcode
- GPS location is recorded and shared with the builder
- This provides proof of attendance and prevents fraud
Privacy
- Location is only captured at clock in/out moments
- We don't track you continuously
- Clock-in/clock-out location snapshots are retained for 90 days for dispute resolution
- See our Privacy Policy for details
10. Ratings & Reviews
How It Works
- After a completed booking, both parties can rate each other (1–5 stars)
- Reviews help build trust in the community
- Ratings are visible on profiles
Rules
- Be honest and fair
- Don't use abusive language
- Don't offer incentives for ratings
- We may remove reviews that violate these rules
11. Prohibited Conduct
You must not:
- Provide false information
- Circumvent the platform to avoid fees
- Harass or abuse other users
- Use Cabin for illegal purposes
- Spam or send unsolicited messages
- Attempt to hack or disrupt the service
12. Taking Work Off-Platform
We understand that good working relationships develop. However:
- For your first 10 bookings with a new contact, please book through Cabin
- After that, we trust you to make the right choice
- Where you have previously completed a paid booking with the same counterparty, the fee paid by the hiring party on subsequent ad hoc bookings with them is 2.5%.
Going off-platform means Cabin no longer holds the payment, and you lose GPS verification and dispute resolution.
13. Tradesperson Availability & Public Visibility
When you set your availability status to Available, a limited version of your trade profile — including your first name, last initial, trade type, approximate area, star rating, and day rate range — may be visible to users who have not yet registered on the platform.
This allows builders and homeowners to see that skilled tradespeople are active on Cabin before they sign up.
- Your full name, contact details, and financial information are never shown to unauthenticated users
- Only your first name and last initial are displayed (e.g. “Marcus T.”)
- Setting yourself to Off removes you from this view immediately
- By setting yourself to Available, you consent to this limited public display
14. Insurance & Liability
Your Responsibilities
- Tradespeople must have appropriate public liability insurance
- Builders must ensure sites are safe
- Both parties are responsible for their own tax affairs
Our Limitations
Cabin is a platform, not a party to the work contract. We're not liable for:
- Quality of work performed
- Injuries or accidents on site
- Disputes about work scope
- Tax or compliance issues
- Lost earnings or consequential damages
Our maximum liability is limited to fees paid to us in the past 12 months.
15. Your Statutory Rights
If you are unhappy with how we have handled something, you are free to take it further at any point. Nothing here requires you to accept our proposal or to exhaust our process first.
16. Intellectual Property
- Cabin owns all rights to the app, brand, and content
- You retain rights to your profile content
- By posting content, you grant us a licence to display it on the platform
17. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms. We'll notify you via email or in-app notification for significant changes. Continued use means acceptance.
18. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved in English courts.
